HEAT YOUR HOUSE WITH A HOT WATER HEATER!
All the benefits of clean, hot water heat, without the complexity of a boiler. Unlike boilers, hot water heaters are simple, they run for years with minimal maintenance, and every house already has one. No more custom engineering, no more installations requiring days of effort, no extravagant space requirements.
Use any hot water heater; Solar, Propane, Electric, Heat Pump, or best of all, an energy-efficient, tank-type, condensing Natural Gas water heater; combine it with the Radiant Core, and you have everything you need for a radiant heat source to heat your house.
At only ten inches wide, there is room for it right next to most hot water heaters. Perfect for small spaces where there isn’t room for both space heating and hot water heating – a conventional water heater can perform both functions.
With a tiny, energy-efficient pump, domestic hot water (the same hot water used for washing dishes and taking showers) circulates through the hot water heater and half of a heat exchanger in an open loop. In a unique innovation, available only with Radiant Core, the open loop pump can do double-duty as a DHW circulation pump so water is hot at the taps at the push of a button.
A second pump circulates hot water in a closed loop through the other half of the heat exchanger, and out to radiant tubing, hot water radiators, or fan-coil units in the living space.
All the operations of the Radiant Core are controlled by a typical programmable thermostat in the living space. Program the thermostat as you would with any other furnace or radiant installation; when the thermostat calls for heat, the circulation pumps kick on.
Radiant Core includes an adjustable TEMPERING VALVE so while the water for heating can be hot enough, the domestic hot water at the taps and shower do not exceed 115 degrees.
Radiant Core can help with LEED points in several ways:
MR 3 Local Sources – Radiant Core is manufactured in Northern California. In most cases, the factories producing the various parts are local, reducing the transportation component of the net embodied energy.
EA 7.1 Water Heating, Improved Hot Water Distribution System
EA 7.2 Improved Water Heating Equipment – One water heat source serves both domestic hot water and space heating needs
ID 1.1 Innovative Design – the Radiant Core is manufactured off-site saving time, and there is no on-site cutting so the waste is minimal.
Radiant Core embodies the three sustainability goals of Malpas Sustainable Design:
- Obvious – The selection of sustainable or green materials
- Less Obvious – An efficient process to fabricate and install
- Non-Obvious – Elegantly engineered so each component is working at its optimum
